Before Memory Fades is a place for preserving the stories, photographs and memories of animals who have touched our lives.

Before Memory Fades is an initiative of Kunashni Foundation. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Before Memory Fades, why we collect it, how it may be used, and the choices available to you.

By using this website, creating an account, creating a Memorial, or submitting information through the website, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

  1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Account Information

When you create an account, we may collect information such as your name, username, email address, password and account authentication information, and your acceptance of our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

Passwords are handled through the website’s authentication system. We do not display your password to other users.

Memorial Information

When you create a Memorial, you may provide information including the name of the animal being remembered, photographs, species, your relationship with them, nickname and gender where provided, information about when they came into your life, whether they passed away or went missing, dates or approximate dates, places or locations, and stories, memories and other information you choose to share.

You decide what information to include in a Memorial.

Memories Shared by Visitors

Visitors may be able to share a memory or remembrance on a Memorial.

When someone submits a memory, we may collect the name and email address supplied with that submission, together with the memory itself and technical information ordinarily associated with a website submission.

An email address provided for this purpose is not intended to be displayed publicly.

Memories may be held for moderation before appearing on the Memorial.

Technical Information

Like most websites, Before Memory Fades may automatically receive limited technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited and information necessary for website security and operation.

Cookies or similar technologies may also be used for essential functions such as login sessions, security and website functionality.

  1. HOW WE USE INFORMATION

We may use information collected through Before Memory Fades to:

  • create and maintain your account;
  • allow you to create and manage Memorials;
  • create your Memory Garden;
  • display Memorials and memories you choose to publish;
  • allow visitors to share memories;
  • moderate submitted content;
  • authenticate users and protect accounts;
  • provide password-reset and account-related communications;
  • operate, maintain and improve the website;
  • prevent misuse, spam, fraud or security threats;
  • respond to questions, requests or complaints; and
  • comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.

  1. MEMORIALS ARE PUBLIC

This is particularly important to understand before creating a Memorial.

Published Memorials on Before Memory Fades are currently public.

This means that information you include in a published Memorial — including the animal’s name, photographs, story, locations or other details you choose to provide — may be viewed by anyone visiting the website.

Published Memorials may also appear in the public Memorial collection and may be shared through WhatsApp, social media, search engines or other websites.

Please do not include information in a Memorial that you do not wish to make public.

Future versions of Before Memory Fades may provide additional privacy or visibility options.

  1. MEMORY GARDENS

Memorials created through an account form that user’s Memory Garden.

Public Memory Gardens can be accessed and shared with others. They may contain links to the published Memorials associated with that Memory Garden.

The website may display a user’s first name in connection with a Public Memory Garden. We do not intentionally display the account holder’s email address as part of the Public Memory Garden.

  1. PHOTOGRAPHS AND OTHER CONTENT

When uploading photographs, stories or other material, please only submit content that you have the right or permission to use.

Photographs and stories included in a published Memorial may be publicly visible and may be shared by visitors.

Please take particular care where a photograph contains identifiable people or where a story contains personal information about another person.

Your responsibilities concerning content you upload are also addressed in our Terms & Conditions.

  1. SHARING MEMORIALS

Before Memory Fades is designed to allow memories to be shared.

The website may provide links or buttons allowing a Memorial or Memory Garden to be shared through services such as WhatsApp or by copying its web address.

When you choose to use a third-party service, that service may process information according to its own privacy policy. Before Memory Fades does not control the privacy practices of third-party platforms.

  1. COOKIES

Before Memory Fades may use cookies that are necessary for the website to function properly, including cookies associated with:

  • logging into an account;
  • maintaining a user session;
  • website security;
  • remembering certain website preferences; and
  • normal WordPress functionality.

If we later introduce non-essential analytics, advertising or marketing cookies, this Privacy Policy and our consent arrangements may be updated as appropriate.

  1. SERVICE PROVIDERS

Before Memory Fades does not currently need to collect payment-card details through the Memorial creation process.

If paid memberships or other paid services are introduced, payments may be processed by a third-party payment provider.

Where a third-party payment processor is used, payment information may be collected and processed by that provider under its own privacy and security practices. Before Memory Fades will update this Privacy Policy as necessary when payment functionality is introduced.

  1. HOW LONG WE KEEP INFORMATION

We may retain account information and Memorial content for as long as an account or Memorial remains active or as reasonably necessary to provide the service.

Because the purpose of Before Memory Fades is the long-term preservation of memories, published Memorials are intended to remain available unless they are removed by the account holder, by Before Memory Fades for an appropriate reason, or as otherwise required.

Certain information may also need to be retained for security, backup, dispute-resolution or legal purposes.

  1. YOUR CHOICES AND REQUESTS

Subject to applicable law and the capabilities of the service, you may contact us if you wish to:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you;
  • correct inaccurate personal information;
  • request deletion of personal information;
  • request deletion or removal of your account;
  • raise a concern about how your information is being used; or
  • withdraw consent where processing depends upon consent.

Some information may need to be retained where required by law or for legitimate security, record-keeping or dispute-resolution purposes.

  1. SECURITY

We take reasonable measures to protect information held through Before Memory Fades.

However, no website, online service or method of electronic storage can guarantee absolute security. Users should use a strong password and keep their account credentials confidential.

Before Memory Fades is not intended for children to create and manage accounts independently.
